Quick shots while she was here today….

  • Our day out today!!

Today we had a blast. We actually did not sit behind a computer screen for the day!! We met our friend, Randy Licht of Borel Photography and spent the day with him, doing what photographers do, which of course is talk about photography!!

During lunch, we were talking about the motor drives on our cameras, and when I was testing it out, well of course Randy made himself a willing subject…..what a nut!

I know he’s been waiting all day to see these pics. we couldnt get them up until now. After you look and leave a comment, go to his site and leave him a comment there as well!

  • Oh Baby!!!

We were looking through our photo’s and we came across this one.

It was so cute we had to post it. We took on a trip to Yosemite.

     BabyFace

We received a call yesterday to do a family portrait shoot this Saturday for a couple that is celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary!! That is such an acheivement! We just celebrated our 25th, and to think this couple has been married twice as long is amazing. You just don’t see that much anymore.

Apparantly there are many grandchildren, and they don’t have a current picture with the entire family. I can’t wait to see how many generations are there. We’ll post them when we’re done!

Oh. I promised new pics which I will do this afternoon….I have some things I need to get to before I can get out to the studio….but in the meantime I just posted a personal experience on my other blog if you want to go visit there…. PassionDove

  • Studio is up!

After having a studio then not having a studio (because we needed to add lots of electrical for all the lighting) we are finally done!

The studio is up and we are getting it ready now for work. We painted it and also planned on sealing the concrete but we decided to leave it for now…we placed a new piece of carpet down and we are set…the last pieces of the studio will come later this week which will be 2 window covers and possibly a nice chair.

We are also going to be putting Brian’s drum set out there so he can have some space to play right now he is stuck in a narrow area and it is too cramped. So hopefully we will get all this done by today and I can add more pics later. But for now here is a before picture and some goofy ones we took yesterday.

    this is a Before picture………

  • Old friends!

Do you have friends that even if you dont see them for a year you can pick right up with them and feel as tho no time at all has passed? Well today we met up with some dear friends whom we have known for over 10 yrs now….we have marveled at how they have raised their daughter Jaymie. She is a wonderful young lady and much of it has to do with their diligence as parents to raise her with love and care. We met up today to talk about her baptism. Here is what I mean about them…they encouraged Jaymie to wait until she was ready to understand what the whole experience of being baptized means. So when she gets baptized it will mean so much more to her. She is such a sweet girl and you will see it in her face. We took a few shots of her and her dad while we were all talking after lunch…We are going to be there to capture this for them and we are so looking forward to shooting this special day for her and for her family….When we get together to do this in September we will put together a slideshow… already praying about the music and how to do this awesome job. It should be a beautiful setting too she is getting baptised in a fountain on their church property that just got built. Cant wait to see it!

In the meantime here is a sneak preview of  Scott and Jayme at the restaurant….the resolutiom on this is not real good…for some reason the last few posts of mine have done that, I am not sure why! So I am putting up a Sepia, a Black and White and a color version to see if it is consistent…which it is. Well I think it just might be the program I am using called Picasa2… I think I will have to have Mark upload from his computer tomorrow sometime to see if there is a difference. These have been untouched except to change them into Black and White and Sepia…

We will be working on our studio tomorrow after church now that the electrical and painting just got done. Then we start doing some studio work….anyone have a full sized mannequin for sale??? Thinking that might be a fun way to practice lighting and stuff…

      IMG_9760 IMG_9760 IMG_9760

    Have a wonderful Sunday!!

So which do you prefer? Sepia? Black and White? or Color?

Oh and I just posted a question on Heaven at my PassionDove site…please feel free to go check it out!

After being invited several times to go to the local PPSV (Professional Photographers of Sacramento Valley) meetings, Mark and I finally made it last night…(thanks to Barton and to Randy Borel some really awesome guys here in town) we just didnt have time to go before with starting a business and keeping up with jobs, editing, putting albums and storyboards together as well as keeping ourselves on a learning curve within our field and have a life!

We went on a night where there was a speaker/teacher Karen Speirling who showed us how to paint using Corel and a Wacom tablet. I know some people were pretty bored or uninterested in it but I really caught a vision for it…when I was younger I loved to draw and I find Photoshop as I watch Mark use it, to be somewhat cumbersome. I toyed with the idea of getting a wacom before but couldnt think of why I would need it! Now I can see something stirring in me! Not sure if it is something that I can contribute something new to our business or not at least not until I can get a wacom and start trying! I think I am willing to try tho!

So anyway…we ended up staying till the end of the meeting which went on for quite some time after the speaker finished her segment. The last portion was really interesting! They had a panel of 5 photographers who judged a number of photographs and fine art. Wow they were tough! A really neat gal we met named Rose had a couple of photographs up there and she was real nervous about it…as they critiqued them I was thinking WOW they are really hard on the pieces. Rose’s pictures were unbelievable! I could see what they picked out and commented on for all the items and it helped me to see what the Nationals will be looking at. So it was real interesting to see what they look at and what they like and dont like…But honestly I thought alot of Rose’s shots!!! They did too they just had a few comments to help her for her next try…

Dont know what I would bring for C&C but I think I would be nervous too! But it is good to take constuctive criticism so you can learn to be better! Oh and it is done anonomously they dont know whose work they are judging.

So okay looks like I am going to be doing some research and keeping an eye on some sales for Corel and Wacom tablets in the next couple of months! Wow Corel is selling it together as a bundle!! Wohoo! Gonna have to look into this!
