Good Morning! I went to our local Women of Faith Conference this weekend and wanted to just share a little bit….
A most memorable point of the second day was one that Robin Mc Graw (Dr. Phil’s wife) made. I was really impressed with her. She shared about making sure to take time for yourself. We need to keep ourselves healthy so we can take care of others. This really was brought home as she shared how her own mother always took care of everyone but herself. The last conversation she had with her mother was asking her if she had made her pumpkin pie that she requested her mother make after spending the whole day helping her move into her and Dr. Phil’s first house. Her mother promised she would get up early and bake her a pie and be back the next morning to help finish up. While Robin was speaking to her on the phone making sure she had a pie baked for her and that she was bringing it right over her mother assured her she had one cooling as they spoke then she said ” Honey, I dont feel real good.” She was gone before she could say another word. Her mother died right then and there. I felt for Robin so much. She lived in regret for so long over the last words to her mother being ones of being all about her. Apparantly her mom was always doing extra things all the time.
She explained how her mother never did anything for herself. Never took care of herself. Always did for everyone else… Robin realized that it is so important to take time to make sure you are taking care of yourself so you can be around to take care of others. Kids dont need martyrs they need a Mom. We have choices
Then came the surprise of the day….when Robin finished her speech guess who came down the aisle!…Dr. Phil! It was so funny to see him in person. He said Robin has walked him off stage from his show over 700 times and he was here to walk her off and he did amid the cheers of thousands of women!
It was so sweet! I have to say Robin is a beautiful lady. She surprised me when she said she was 52! She is exactly my age!
So I leave you with Robin’s words to take care of yourself so you can be there for your family!
God bless!!
Kerri

Hey Kerri,
I quit my job at Dell and am working nights as a grociery checker. I’m doing so much better. I’d rather be working days and I’m getting paid way less money, but I’m so less stressed. I may need to sell my house, but that’s ok. I thought about buying Robin McGraw’s new book. Maybe I will. Well, I love you guys!!!
Love Lisa
Hi Kerri I am excited to hear the results of the sonogram today. Please leave me a message on my xanga. Plus I want you to see Mazzy’s slideshow I have up and to a Carole King song.
Thank you for sharing your experience!! Women are often overlooked by themselves, it is so fabulous to hear such encouragement!!
It is so important for caregivers (moms) to take time out for themselves. It refreshes us and enables us to be more present to others.
What a moving story. You were blessed to be a part of that conference.
