We just returned from our awesome trip down to L.A. to hear Scott Roberts and Bob Davis speak. It was incredible – if one of their seminars comes to a town anywhere near you, sell your possessions (except for your camera gear unless it’s Nikon) and go hear them. This seminar was so very helpful to us!
Our trip was a lot of fun. We drove down Friday. When we arrived at the hotel we were going to take one of the local tour buses to see all the sights, but that fell through so we decided to have our own adventure. Which it was.
We walked to the nearest Metro station, which is L.A.’s underground subway system. When we got to the station there were ALL THESE PEOPLE and we learned that Sammy Hagar was having a concert that night which was where everyone was headed. We got off at the Hollywood & Vine station – thats the famous intersection, right? Just Like Haight & Ashbury? Well, it may have been famous once upon a time, but it’s not where you want to be walking ALONE at night with your family and expensive cameras!!
We walked down to the Walk of Fame, arriving unscathed and had a blast taking shots there. We were looking for the famous “HOLLYWOOD” sign, but found out they don’t light it at night so we couldn’t see it, but if you look closely at my pictures I was able to capture the sign….
We looked at the stars on the sidewalk, had some food, looked at the people and then headed back to the hotel exhausted so we could be up early the next day for the seminar.
After breakfast in the hotel room, we headed over to the L.A. Convention Center and found the seminar. It was great to meet all our Xanga Friends (Franga’s) we’ve made and finally connect a face with the name. Kerri put those into the last post.
Then we met my friend and fellow photographer Mark Philipp with his wife Beth – Great People!! (He’s not yet a Xangian, so pray for him….Salvation is free to all unless you want to pay for premium…) We had dinner in Long Beach near the Queen Mary and then came back. Sunday we headed back home – a whirlwind tour to be sure, but what a blast. The slideshow above is the best of the pics that Kerri, Lindsay and I took. It was so much fun to be taking pictures because we wanted to and of what we wanted to rather than under the gun of a wedding!!

That sounds like so much fun!
Mark and Kerri, you two are even more awesome in person!! You two are charming, beautiful, hilariously humorous, and warm people for sure. I wish we could’ve spent some time together outside of the workshop. We will have to spend some time together when we hold this event up north. Just let us know which city and we’re there. The pictures you guys had in the slideshow were AWESOME, especially the pictures of that one Asian guy who MC’d the event.
OH MY GOD….!!! What a fabulous, AMAZING, slideshow presentation of our trip to LA. It makes me cry!!!!!!! I wanted to be there so bad. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the your photos and the work you put into that slideshow. I could just kick myself for not being there but then I think of the smiles on my babes faces and couldn’t leave them to travel the world with Bob every time he walks out the door. I can’t wait until the day I get to meet you both. Maybe WPPI???? Say, yes, you’ll be there! It’s SO MUCH FUN!!! Thanks for putting together this fantastic slideshow. Bob and I both enjoyed watching it and cracked up when we saw Lydell Photography on star… such a great idea. I love the music and how you timed the photos! It was perfect! Thanks again for going to the seminar. Bob really enjoyed meeting you both and can’t stop talking about how nice you were! Love, Dawn

Ditto with Kenny’s comment
that was awesome! thank you so much for putting that together, it was amazing. I enjoyed meeting all of you and I know we will be getting together in the future. Glad you had a great weekend.
Well I watched the slideshow first then proceeded down to read the post and comment on the awesome night shots of L.A. Something caught my eye though, “sell your pocessions except your camera gear unless it’s NIKON” hmmm I wonder who wrote that……… MARK! You are a funny guy! Well despite that remark I have to say I really enjoyed the slideshow and thought it was SUPERB! I am not happy that I missed this seminar. I know and hope I will go in the future to another one they may have. I missed two great photographers. Kerri, thank you for the post seminar update and talk. Hey if you are still up as I am, check out my new post on Andrew and this adorable family I did.
Oh yea, very creative touch on The Star on the Walk of Fame and you are stars in my eyes.
Mark, Kerri, and Lindsay, it was so great meeting you all in person! I’m glad we got to sit one row from each other so that we could chat during the day. The slideshow is awesome! I can tell a lot of thought and preparation went into it. The energy and emotion in the images are great. I gotta get me one of those fisheyes!
wow! awesome slideshow! even lydell photography earned a star on the hollywood walk of fame. haha!
haha! sure by all means use the name! haha.. its not like i have a copyright on it or anything! my wife and i fell in love with that name from the movie A Walk to Remember. we didn’t want a common name either, so we both thought that named suited him perfectly. Grayson’s not too bad of a name either, its not a common name so thats always a plus. and yes, i sure hope they come out this way to the midwest because i could surely use A LOT of hints! and thanks for the compliment on my son.. he’s such a good baby!
Kerri, I’d imagine there would be people interested in driving up to the Bay Area. Who knows, this could be a regular thing!
no worries! haha, i think you commented on my other post but yah! yah the valley is a bit dry and warm(understatement). I love Oregon and Washington! I did a road trip all the way to the Canadian boarder from California it was awesome! Oregon is so green, i love it!
Haha, I saw that… sneaking that star in there, very nice… LA is rad, it’s been a few years for me, may have to remedy that… hola to the clan, in Peace and God Bless.

Hey, Thanks for your comments about my photography. I’m glad you like it! I love that video you put together very original and the music what can I say about it. It makes me want to turn on some classic t.v. shows from the 80′s
