  • Near Folsom Prison

Sometimes I love to just pull over and take my camera and get a few shots. I keep a pad and pen nearby to jot down places I cant stop because I am on my way somewhere on a deadline but I will make a note of it to come back.

These images were taken on my way home from my daughter Kelly’s house one day last week. I had some time since I was just on my way home and I finally got to pull over. This pretty spot was just a mile from the famous Folsom Prison made famous by Johnny Cash’s song.

I didnt get the front of the prison because it is tucked way back off the road but there is an entrance and I will get that one day soon. I was unable to pull over to get that shot when I passed by. The shot I took from the car going 40 mph with the passenger side window rolled down wasn’t the best so I will wait for the right time…

There are alot of places still left in Folsom like this but so much of it is being bulldozed away for all the new houses going in but with the slump going on I dont know why for the life of me they keep building! If you ever wanted a beautiful new home in the high 400′s on up the Sacramento area has some beauties. Now is the time to buy! Just a year ago we saw such a rise in prices that everyone we knew in our church was becoming a realestate agent! Then the slump hit…they say it should pick up in the spring again so I guess all these houses will go up again. Right now they are practically giving them away. OR they are offering fully lanscaped yards….its crazy!

I love the sepia tone but then I love the color…it is hard for me to convert a color lanscape image because to me color shows life and reality. But black and white and sepia can make such a dramatic statement!

Sometimes I just like to get out and get up close and personal with nature….Kerri

I took this photo while in Sitka, Alaska with my Canon Rebel while on vacation for our 25th Anniversary in June 2005.

We were all walking along looking at the quaint little village homes when I came upon this window. It made me want to peek inside. It’s such a cheery little window!

“Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!

  • 7wEird fACts abOUt mE!

Okay okay I was tagged quite awhile ago and never could find the time to sit and do it until now. everyone is sleeping in since it is a Saturday morning but no I have to be awake! SO here goes…

    Weird Facts about me:

    1. When I eat cereal if I have too much milk left over I have to add more cereal or if I dont have enough milk I have to add it. It can get to be a few times before it works out perfectly! Wierd I know!

    2. I add boiled chopped eggs to my tuna. Apparantly NOBODY does this. I learned it from my mother I think they did it like that to stretch the tuna out among the kids. I also added breadcrumbs to hamburger to make meatloaf until I realized I didnt have to add that to make a good meatloaf again I think it was to stretch the meal…

3.I love the beach but I am afraid of water.

    4. I love to travel but I HATE to fly

    5. I had a Grandma Bob! Okay this one needs explaining I know…My parents were deaf and my mother’s mother Grandma Bob had a name sign that was taking the palm of your hand and bumping it against the side of your head. So when my parents were teaching me her name in order to remind me of who she was they did the palm thing on the side of the head to tell me it was my grandmother who hit her head when she fell recently. Sp…. I associated the two together that the bump on the head and the sound my mother made when she was trying to say BOP referring to the bump, was close to the only name that my mother could possibly mean which was….Bob! So I turned my Grandma Marcia into Grandma BOB! and it stuck ever since. We called her Grandma Bob all of her life.

    6. Another funny signing moment… the sign for COKE was taking your index finger and making it into a syringe and injecting something into your vein. Seriously I am not making it up! I can’t even imagine all the places I had signed that and what all the people around me must have thought of my parents! LOL! I think they use a new sign now…but I dont know what it is.

    7. Oh! one more I just remembered . As you can tell I learned signing at a very young age…I am the oldest of 3 and being hearing with deaf parents there are alot of funny things that get lost in translation and lots of things that I invented that they jsut thought was too cute to change once they realized my immature mind and the ingenuity that sometimes comes from neccessity! Like I said earlier I love the beach…my parents made it a point to take us there quite often. When I wanted to get something across to my parents I sometimes had to improvise if I didnt know the sign or if there wasnt a sign for it. Such as the word beach. I couldnt finger spell the word yet since I was too little to spell so I came up with a word that sounded like it. Peach! Thinking they could make the connection I proudly produced the word peach when they asked where do you want to go today? Well I guess they must have figured it out at some point but I find it so sweet that till the day they both passed away we have used that sign to mean beach.

Well I guess that is my contribution to the “Write 7 weird things about yourself”" thingy that I was asked to do. Sorry Sara that I took sooo long in doing it!

    Kerri

Maybe Mark will do one of his weird facts! Bop you’re it Mark!

Baby Pictures!…Katrina came by today to pick up some prints, and brought along her new son, D’Anthony who was born three weeks ago.

He is the first of our couples to have a baby!!

She and Desmond got married last July – they were the wedding we shot when it was 117 and it was an outdoor wedding! (The link to the slideshows from their wedding are in the left hand panel…)

He was sooooooo cute, and so good, so of course, what did we do –

    WE TOOK PICTURES!!

Here are some of the gems of the day. He was so good, letting me stick that lens up in his face and all.

  • Engagement Sessions

If you’ve been a regular visitor to our blog you know that we LOVE Engagement sessions! We enjoy shooting them for a few reasons. First, it gives us a chance to get to know each other a little better. Second, it gives them an idea of what the wedding day will be like to have cameras following them. Third, it makes them aware of how they “look” when they kiss or hold each other …as well as how their make up and hair looks in the camera. It makes a big difference on their wedding day, and we’ve seen the difference when you shoot a wedding without an engagement session. It can seem like a lot of paparazzi if they don’t know what to expect.

Also, we’ve found that not all couples understand what an “engagement session” might be like. They do differ from studio to studio -some just take a little bit of time for an in-studio portrait so they can have one or two for their “signature board” at their wedding. Which is fine, but we find that alot of couples are opting for the candid shots and photojournalistic style. Which is what we love doing. So its a great match. Of course, we do get that one pose for the signature portrait so that they have that too.

Our engagement sessions last between 2-3 hours as we drive to at least two locations and basically wear us all out. We want to be able to capture who they really are as they relax with each other and have fun. We tell them to remember what is was like when they were out on a date and weren’t consumed with wedding plans – “Remember when you just got to go have fun with each other?” That usually brings a smile to their face. So we tell them to do that and ignore us! Then we get some really great shots and they get to spend some fun romantic time together.

So we decided that the best way to tell our couples about this would be to put together an album from our recent engagement shoots so they can see what we are talking about. Kerri spent some time designing this album and she did a great job! Now we have something for clients to see. So along with their very own personal on line slideshow we put together, they can now have a beautiful magazine style album to go along with it.

If you are bride or groom, ask us how you can get an engagement session added to your wedding package!

Our regular price is for an Engagement Session is $300.00 when you reserve us for your wedding, but if you mention this post you can have an engagement session added for 50%!

Call or email us if you are interested in finding out more details or to set up a meeting!

  • Going to pamper my daughter…

Kelly is still really sick altho her temperature is down. I am running over there with a humidifier (when and if I can find it). Gonna bring some chicken alfredo too so she doesnt have to cook….

    Be back later!!!

Oh and thank you for praying for Crystal “Hopeful and Happy” she is doing much better!!!

    Love  Kerri

  • Thanks you guys!!!! Wow we feel like celebrities! hehe….

I am surprised our pets still recognize us! I think I would be doing a double take like, “hey! did I just come into the neighbor’s house?? haha….

For those of you who read my other blog about Kelly’s high temp scare….I wanted to let you know the meds are working her temp has come down. So no C-Section scare. She should start feeling better some time soon. But with bronchitis and an ear infection she is still pretty miserable.

    Thanks for praying for her!

Been busy working on a new project which I shall be rolling out soon.  So far it is looking good!

Had some busy times here today! John and Alicia and their 3 adorable little boys showed up here to get some headshots for Alicia and their oldest son Jordan who is all of about 7 or 8?? That was fun meeting them and their shots turned out super good I wish them success in getting the audition they are trying out for . Such a sweet young family! Alicia is going to be in an upcoming wedding we are shooting this summer for none other than Josh and Karah the last couple we posted a slideshow of their engagement session. Another amazingly fun and sweet couple! We are so blessed to be getting fun young awesome couples full of life and ready for anything!

We also got to see one of our favorite brides tonight! Remember Nick and Sarai? Sarai was one of our June Brides. Sarai came to pick up their poster they ordered of one of their wedding pictures. She is one of the funniest people I know! She should be a stand up comedian! I just love chatting it up with her. We get into the greatest conversations about life and God and freindships and love and we basically solve all the world’s problems in one evening! Chocolate always helps, too!

Well I am dropping like a lead balloon here so I am off to bed.

    Have a wonderful day!!!!!

    Kerri
