  • Engagement Sessions

If you’ve been a regular visitor to our blog you know that we LOVE Engagement sessions! We enjoy shooting them for a few reasons. First, it gives us a chance to get to know each other a little better. Second, it gives them an idea of what the wedding day will be like to have cameras following them. Third, it makes them aware of how they “look” when they kiss or hold each other …as well as how their make up and hair looks in the camera. It makes a big difference on their wedding day, and we’ve seen the difference when you shoot a wedding without an engagement session. It can seem like a lot of paparazzi if they don’t know what to expect.

Also, we’ve found that not all couples understand what an “engagement session” might be like. They do differ from studio to studio -some just take a little bit of time for an in-studio portrait so they can have one or two for their “signature board” at their wedding. Which is fine, but we find that alot of couples are opting for the candid shots and photojournalistic style. Which is what we love doing. So its a great match. Of course, we do get that one pose for the signature portrait so that they have that too.

Our engagement sessions last between 2-3 hours as we drive to at least two locations and basically wear us all out. We want to be able to capture who they really are as they relax with each other and have fun. We tell them to remember what is was like when they were out on a date and weren’t consumed with wedding plans – “Remember when you just got to go have fun with each other?” That usually brings a smile to their face. So we tell them to do that and ignore us! Then we get some really great shots and they get to spend some fun romantic time together.

So we decided that the best way to tell our couples about this would be to put together an album from our recent engagement shoots so they can see what we are talking about. Kerri spent some time designing this album and she did a great job! Now we have something for clients to see. So along with their very own personal on line slideshow we put together, they can now have a beautiful magazine style album to go along with it.

If you are bride or groom, ask us how you can get an engagement session added to your wedding package!

  • I love your photojournalist/candid style…probably because it’s so similar to my own (just technically superior!)  Two years ago when my daughter was dating a wonderful young man, for my birthday present, they let me photograph them down on the beach…their delight in each other’s company made capturing sweet images so easy.  And you guys get to do this for living! :goodjob:

  • I hope you guys are charging at least $7,000 for your wedding packages. Your photography certainly warrants that price for sure!

  • That came out so AWESOME!  GREAT job!  BTW I love Dave Matthews.

  • You are getting this one in print, right!?

  • Robin:  Absolutely! We actually started with getting it in print. Kerri labored over the design and really made it pop and we had it printed and bound – next time you come over you can see it! This morning when I got up I realized we needed to have a digital version for our website and when that was done I posted it here.
