Near Folsom Prison
Sometimes I love to just pull over and take my camera and get a few shots. I keep a pad and pen nearby to jot down places I cant stop because I am on my way somewhere on a deadline but I will make a note of it to come back.
These images were taken on my way home from my daughter Kelly’s house one day last week. I had some time since I was just on my way home and I finally got to pull over. This pretty spot was just a mile from the famous Folsom Prison made famous by Johnny Cash’s song.
I didnt get the front of the prison because it is tucked way back off the road but there is an entrance and I will get that one day soon. I was unable to pull over to get that shot when I passed by. The shot I took from the car going 40 mph with the passenger side window rolled down wasn’t the best so I will wait for the right time…
There are alot of places still left in Folsom like this but so much of it is being bulldozed away for all the new houses going in but with the slump going on I dont know why for the life of me they keep building! If you ever wanted a beautiful new home in the high 400′s on up the Sacramento area has some beauties. Now is the time to buy! Just a year ago we saw such a rise in prices that everyone we knew in our church was becoming a realestate agent! Then the slump hit…they say it should pick up in the spring again so I guess all these houses will go up again. Right now they are practically giving them away. OR they are offering fully lanscaped yards….its crazy!
I love the sepia tone but then I love the color…it is hard for me to convert a color lanscape image because to me color shows life and reality. But black and white and sepia can make such a dramatic statement!
This is an entry just before the Folsom entrance
The prison is just beyond the trees and to the right
Sometimes I just like to get out and get up close and personal with nature….Kerri

ARGH..just typed a long comment an lost it
One more time…
Sad to hear of the changes around Roseville and Folsum.
When we visited at Xmas, I loved driving around and seeing the rolling hills, lone oak trees, barren branches and tangled berry vines, and of course the old barns. My favorite place to visit was Old Town Folsum and it’s charming shops, plus photographing the bridge over the river.
The same thing has happend in Orange County but even more agressively. The ranches, cattle and orange groves of my youth are gone…taken over by urban sprawl
The third picture down is my favorite. Beautiful shots.
Hi Kerri!
Thanks for stopping by my site. I go to church at Valley Springs in Roseville, CA. I would love to join you on a photography field trip sometime. Some friends and I go to point reyes on photo fieldtrips atleast once a year. I work for profinish design in Rocklin, ca. It’s been a great learning experience. A year ago I promised everyone I would never do weddings, and here I am! Life is funny like that. Nice to meet you! Hopefully it will be in person sometime.
Sarah
