Okay… I dont know what got into us but Kelly came over and did haircuts on all of us! Then Mark surprised me and shaved off his mustache which he has only ever done twice in our 26 year marriage!
I think I am finally over the shock and now I like it. I am posting Mark and mine first.
We are going to use these on our website…

So…Which do you think we should use?

  • The Car Harpoon

     324 - Harpoon[1]

I love Dave Barry – he combines the right about of sarcasm with truth. this is an email i received today and I had to put this into a post.

After you read this, tell me you don’t want this as an option on your next car…

(This classic Dave Barry column was originally published Dec. 1, 1996.)

Here’s the problem: If you stop 100 people at random and ask them to evaluate their driving ability, every single one will say, “above average.”

It is a scientific fact that all drivers, including those who are going the wrong way on interstate highways, believe they are above average. Obviously, this is impossible: Some drivers have to be below average. Not me, of course. I am currently ranked fourth among the top drivers in world history, between Mario Andretti and Spartacus. But there are many incompetent people out there on the roads, changing speed and direction without warning or drifting along in the left, or ”passing,” lane at 23 m.p.h., blinking their turn signals, which they never turn off, even in the garage.

These people make me crazy, which is why I am so excited about the car harpoon.

I found out about the car harpoon from an Associated Press item, sent to me by many alert readers, concerning the police in the town of Oulu, Finland.

Finland (also known as ”Norway”) is a northern European nation that also contains a city named ”Espoo” (suggested civic motto: “The City That Sounds Like A Person Spitting”).

You might think that the biggest traffic menace in Finland would be unlicensed reindeer, but the Oulu police have a problem with speeders and drunk drivers who refuse to stop. That’s why police Sgt. Markku Limingoja invented the car harpoon. This is a missile-shaped object, equipped with hydraulically activated barbs, that sticks several feet out from the front bumper of the police car. The idea is that if the police are chasing somebody, they ram the harpoon into the fleeing car’s trunk, activate the barbs to keep the two cars stuck together, then use their brakes to stop both vehicles.

We definitely need the car harpoon over here. Of course, we’d have to modify the concept slightly, as follows:

    1. It would not be limited to police cars. It would also be available as an option on cars operated by qualified civilian drivers such as (needless to say) yourself.

    2. The civilian model car harpoon — which I assume would be marketed under the name ”Carpoon” — would contain additional features, including a powerful public-address system.

The Carpoon would greatly enhance the driving experience. Envision this scenario: You’re behind a bad driver stopped at a traffic light. The light turns green, but the bad driver does not move. He was completely unprepared for the fact that — how the heck would anybody know this? — red would be followed by green. He’s sitting there, baffled, like a person watching a drive-in movie with a very complicated plot. You honk your horn, but this has no effect on the bad driver; people are always honking at him, and he never knows why.

Suddenly — WHAM — the bad driver feels a jolt. Then he hears a very loud voice — your voice — coming from inside his car, saying: ”Excuse me! The light is green! You can go now!” This announcement would be followed, after a courtesy interval of one-tenth of a second, by tear gas.

As a motorist, I want a Carpoon now. And I’ll tell you what else I want: a Tire Assault Vehicle. This is a real device that was featured in a publication called NASA Tech Briefs, sent in by alert reader Robert Stolpe.

The Tire Assault Vehicle, or TAV, is designed to protect humans from high-pressure aircraft tires that might explode. Basically, the TAV is a remote-controlled model tank that has been modified to incorporate a video camera on top and an electric drill sticking out the front. The operator, from a safe distance, drives the TAV up to an aircraft tire and drills a hole in it, safely letting out the air.

You know how sometimes you’re trying to find a space in a crowded parking lot, and you come to a car that some jerk has deliberately parked diagonally across two spaces? Can you imagine the satisfaction you’d experience if, without even having to leave the comfort and safety of your car, you could drill holes in the jerk’s tires?

But that would be wrong. Property destruction is not the solution. No, it would be better to take a deep breath, calm down, wait patiently until the jerk returns to his car, and then drill holes in his shins.

Wouldn’t that be great? That’s why you need to tell your federal government to stop nattering about air bags and start providing you, the above-average driver, with the Tire Assault Vehicle, the Carpoon and other technology (I am not ruling out nuclear weapons) that you can really use. So don’t wait! Write to your congressperson now! Also, press the accelerator, OK? The light is green.

  • I got a new wife today!!!

After thinking and talking about this for a while Kerri decided to take the plunge. She cut her hair shorter today.

Here is a pic we took on our recent trip to San Francisco:

    Kerri Before

and here are a few from today after she was all done. Lindsay wanted me to get some in natural light. it was late in the day but there was still some light coming in. Enough for my 5D!! These were a combo of 800 and 1500 ISO.

I love it!!  Now I get to see more of her beautiful face!

Speaking of seeing…today was a little depressing. We went to the doc for my followup and found out that instead of LASIK they did PRK.  The end result is the same but PRK is a more painful and longer recovery. So my vision today is blurry and it has started to hurt again. I’m still on vicodin.

My vision should clear up in the next few days but I was expecting to get back to work today. It hurts to look at anything bright (like a computer screen – which I have my brightness level turned way down.) I was able to make phone calls today to some potential brides, and some other paperwork but now I’m resting. I’m getting this posted and then off to the couch.

But enough about me, this post is about Kerri!! Let her know how beautiful she is!!

  • Update tomorrow and prayer requests for friends…

Sorry not much to tell yet, except that he is actually taking the vicodin he was prescribed. Heading to bed so hopefully after a night of good sleep and all the naps he got in today he might be able to give a good report! I am taking him to his Dr. appt. tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. so we’ll be able to know more then, too.
Thank you for all your prayers and support!!!

I would also ask you to go to Hopeful and Happy’s site and pray with her. I just found out that she is having contractions with her pregnancy and  it is not time for that right now…but if you go there and scroll down you will be able to see the most unbelievable 4D pictures of her little one!!! She is a dear friend who started serious photography about the same time I did. She is one firecracker!! She got her studio up and running in no time and already has had destination weddings and a sought after photographer! Some of you may already know her or remember her from early on in our xangas (speaking to some of my oldtimer frangas (friends+xanga)!

Also our very dear friend Robin Michelini is going in for surgery on Feb.1 and I definitely want to ask you to pray for her. I don’t have permission to actually post the details but I would like to ask you to pray for her surgery. I dont know if Robin will be posting any details but I would suggest going to her site and leaving her some encouragement and support I am sure she would be happy to receive them.

    God Bless and Thank you!!

    Mark and Kerri

P.S. There are a few others that can use your prayers as well… If you are not worn out already I will list them here for you prayer warriors!

My dear Franga, Hey Hey Paula’s son in law : Mike/cancer
A friend’s 10 yr. old grandson Nicholas: possible cancer (suspicious lumps)
3 year old Riktor Phillips: Brain cancer

  • VISION IS PRECIOUS!!!!

    UPDATE: WE ARE BACK…

Mark is sleeping now… dont know much right now…but will keep you posted. It went smoothly and he says he thinks it might already be looking improved somewhat….but it is hard to tell since he has to wear these big black sunglasses and has to keep quiet and rest….so no partying and jumping off the walls for Mark! Which literally means no coffee! haha….

Thank you all for praying!! Now for the healing part!

    IMG_8717

Please pray for Mark ….he is having his 3rd eye surgery at 8:3o a.m  He had Lasik done 16 months ago and they didn’t quite get it right the first time, so they did an enhancement. They did a monovision correction but when they did they overcorrected by 50%. So now, his third time in, they are going to cut back the correction…Pray that the Dr. gets it on target this time! Its been a rough year for Mark to not have the vision he had hoped and paid for!!!

I will be back to post an update when we get back…

    Thank you!!!!

    Kerri

Edit: Thank you all who have already prayed!!! We are leaving now…..

  • Meet Josh & Karah

    Our recent engagement shoot!

They were so much fun. It’s always great to see people unfold before the camera. As they become more comfortable you get the opportunity to catch who they are.

2007 Summer Weddings are booking up….

    IMG_2443

Well Mark has been busy doing year end business stuff so he has been pretty tied up at the desk…but that is fine since the phone has been busy with inqurires and we are setting up lots of meetings. It is getting exciting to think about the new 2007 Weddings and meeting the new couples as they come to check out our work… Funny how the name Kara is the name of two of our booked brides! haha….Must have been a popular name for that age group!

It looks like June is almost filled up. We have a few people interested in the last day but haven’t booked yet so be sure to check with us if your wedding is in June. June and September seem to be our biggest months so far. July has a couple of dates left and August looks pretty clear for now. I imagine we will hear from those brides pretty soon…

If you are a friend or a relative dont expect to see much of us this summer! haha…

    God has blessed us…
