Sitting here this morning reminiscing….the events of last night…
Brian receives his High School diploma!
Christian Life Academy
is a very small school as you can imagine with a
Senior Class of 3.

Brian, Phillip and Brent
(top down)
All three, great guys!!! as we got to hear through the night. The evening started out with Mr. Gubitz welcoming us and laying out the proceedings of the evening. Then he opened up in prayer.
First up, was Mrs. Gubitz and her thoughts on each young man. She entertained us with some pretty funny memories and her no-nonsense but, loving observations. Mr. Gubitz then got up and gave a pretty accurate accounting of what each young man was like when they came to the school. He did not hold back on that because he shared what God has done with the negatives in turning them into postitives and being able to watch that over the years. I found that incredibly palatable to hear how God took each boy through whatever particular downfall or undesirable trait they had going at the time and turned it around into something that He used to make them who they are today and wll continue to use to keep them ever moving forward in Him.
It was kinda like hearing a grandparent tell you what they think of their grandchild, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly but…. “in love”. Mr. Gubitz has that most awesome trait of God called GRACE . Everyone needs a person like that in their lives…I also love the other trait God has called WISDOM that Mrs. Gubitz has. I am grateful for the grace and the no-nonsense personality tempered with wisdom that they both have. Its a match made in heaven for school administrators/teachers. What an excellent way of sharing about these young men. I cannot imagine where Brian could have flouished any better or had a better foundation to work on academically and spiritually. That’s pretty amazing. That really “ties” in later…
Brian gets up to speak…

Mr. Gubitz then shared a gift with each one which was a tie that represented something about their uniqueness….for Phillip he gave him a tie that had scripture verses from Phillipians on it and they really spoke to who Phillip is. Then came Brian’s which at first glance I had to smile…it was a brown tie. Brian loves the color brown! It had photographs on it and it had to do with creativity! The scripture for him was Proverbs 3: 5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknoweldge Him and He will make your paths staight.” Such a wonderful overall way to point someone. This tie also, of course, speaks to how they recognized Brian’s talent for photography and writing. I went to bed last night thinking of what those two subjects can mean for him! He is also known for his wry humor and when I put that altogether I suddenly came the realization that Dave Barry had better add a chair to his office or start packing!….lol. But honestly I really see him as a serious journalist as his style seems to be more on the serious side with a side order of wry humor…so I dont know whose shoes he can fill there but I am beginning to sense something here for Brian. Photo-journalism! He is getting his feet wet with wedding photojournalism with us but I believe he could and should move onto a more literary endeavor which he is so fond of.

The last boy Brent is alot like Brian in that they both are smart, quiet, reserved, thoughful, gentle and easy going. Phillip is outgoing, energetic, quick-witted and bright and his family and our family are like true family so we know and love Phillip like he was one of our boys… So then came Brent, he received a tie with Bible references all over it which spoke to how Brent would memorize a chapter of scripture in 45 minutes with almost no effort at all. Why would he do that you ask? Mr. Gubitz full of grace (he’d blush if he heard me say that I am sure!) would extend an opportunity to up your grade by memorizing a chapter of scripture. Some took advantage and some didnt. Brent found that an easy A!
After they both spoke about each young man, they had the parents come up and pray over their son. It was incredibly sweet. They made it a very memorable night for each family. I am excited for each of these guys and very proud of our Brian and Phillip.
I am so glad he was able to attend afterall. His chicken pox was scabbed over by the time we had to make a final decision on whether he should attend or not. After much prayer on Brian’s part the last of the sores began to crust over within hours! What a way to feel loved and cared for by God on such a momentous occasion I dont think Brian will forget that anytime soon!
Afterward, we celebrated at P.F. Changs and enjoyed each other’s company even tho we missed AI and most of LOST…. : ) I think we will live….lol

On a final note we just now learned that Brian’s cousin Chelsea just came down the POX! UGH!!!! She must have been exposed to it when Brian and Mark went to her graduation party last week. Oh my the gift that keeps on giving! They exposed us 2 years ago on Christmas and had us all quarantined for 10 days. We thought Brian got off pretty easy and had contracted a really mild case, either he didnt have it afterall or this is his second time with it. Well there you have it!
Let this be the end of the Chicken Pox in the Lydell Family!!!
