Why do you want a professional photographer?
You’ve invested a lot of time (and money) into your wedding to make sure the day is perfect, and your guests are so excited to be a part of your big day.
You’ve hired a photographer and perhaps a videographer to document your day so you can relive it over and over again. Imagine your surprise when all you really get to see is your photographer and his assistant.
This video is a perfect example of why you want to hire someone to photograph your wedding who is not only a professional, but has the proper equipment to shoot your wedding!
Your wedding day should be all about you, and not about seeing the back of your photographer in this case and videographers in other cases. Our philosophy is that we want to shoot your wedding in such a way that you notice us as little as possible. During the ceremony all eyes should be on the bride and groom.
Seeing these types of wedding video’s actually makes me mad and sad – I am so mad that a photographer would think this is appropriate. I would be embarrased to find how obrusive I was during the ceremony. There is plenty of time to get into the mix later during the fun at the reception but this just makes me cringe!
Hire a professional for your wedding so your guests will actually be able to see and enjoy the ceremony. Honestly if you are hiring within a severe budget then dont be afraid to ask if they have long lenses to capture those intimate moments without becoming part of them. If they dont, then ask if they are willing to rent them. Many churches have big restrictions so shooting from the back is the only option you have and you MUST have a long lens preferrably a good one that will work in low light situations otherwise you will have dark images and they will be blurry. If they are not willing to rent then move on to someone who has the right equipment or at least willing to rent a good 70-200 IS lens or something equivalent to those millimeters. But realistically a professional who understands your needs and can satisfy those needs is worth every penny! The photographs will be there long after all the food and drink is consumed and the flowers have died. The money you spent on them will also live on through your photographs so make sure you are super happy with your photography decision.

That’s horrible!! What was the guy thinking?
oh my…
Word…… You would think he should have a tele for those shots…. and why the heck is he using a flash? This stuff makes me angry as well Kerri and thanks for sharing this ridiculous video of why you need a professional
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU
That was very insensitive or self centered of that photographer
I’m pretty offended by this whole post. That was my father and older sister who shot this wedding and I think that they are extremely professional.com/balkalhafjalaelit I’m juuuuuuuuuust kidding.
Great post. I would hope that I’d never be that obtrusive. That portion of the video where they exchanging rings and the photographer’s were basically reaching into the groom’s pockets was ridiculous. They might as well have ridden the bride and groom in piggy back style to save them some time.

LOL!!! You had me for a minute! LOL!!! I wonder what the photographers think of this video. I would hate knowing someone posted up something stupid that I did for everyone to see. So I kinda feel sorry for the guy but wow its just too perfect not to show what you dont want!
Kerri.
WOW, I’m always amazed when I see stuff like this. So much for being a fly on the wall… he was more like a mosquito! I just wanted to smack him. LOL!
I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you about your earlier post… I’m glad the cats and dogs are all playing nice now! Well maybe not Betty!
I just posted about the workshop you were asking me about. I’m finally doing my first workshop ever and I’m pretty excited! Even if you don’t make it… I still hope we connect while we’re in Vegas! Breakfast or coffee or dinner or something!
Now off to check out your other entries that I’ve missed!
Love ya!

awwww what a beautiful couple and wedding. I wish them all the best!!!
and regarding the photog…ummmm yea…it’s called a telephoto
Hi…..I have had friends who have had HORRIBLE photographers…and it just ruins things…photos are so important to me…I would freak if I got married and my photos were awful..that is why I hang around all you cool people…Love Ya, Charlotte
This guy was a major PUTZ! I’m sure the guests all made comments to the families and the couple afterwards.
Great post to enlighten the public and to let them see what NOT to hire and to always ask questions about what gear we carry. Check my latest post on my blog, I list all of my gear I take to every shoot.

@Borelfoto - Randy, I forgot you used to do video! Yeah a telephoto lens would have eliminated all of that.. I did see your post with all your great equipment. You are a solid photog.with great equipment.
Kerri
@Borelfoto - I was thinking of adding a taser to my list of equipment to bring out to take care of “Uncle Bob” who stands up in the aisle right in front of me when I’m tryng to get that critical shot…
He looks professional to me..he has a flash bracket…LOL
Wonder what their expression was when they saw their video and it showed the photographer walking back and forth….WOW!
I’m just passing through but I can’t help but comment. You made a very strong point, I only wish every photog and “Bride” could see this video. Maybe even the one that shot this wedding
If a bride would only know that a friend can ruin their wedding in more ways than one, then after she/he has ruined the wedding, they’ve possibly also ruined the friendship.
I was once a “guest-with-a-camera” at a wedding, and I was just doing my thing, relaxing in the back, being incognito, and I noticed the official photographer getting all these great shots, great angles… I thought to myself wow, this guy has the guts to get the shots he wants, I bet the photos are perfect, maybe I need to rethink my own shooting strategy and start being more “active”…
Then after the wedding I heard comments from the guests about how annoyingly “visible” the photographer was. I contrasted those comments with the “gosh, I didn’t even notice you!” comments that *I* always got, and I decided to keep my style.
And, I’ve seen videographers get in the photographer’s way, too! (Not a crack at Randy, just a general comment) I’ve seen wedding photogs take their glidecam right up the aisle and put their camera in the face of everybody that spoke one word…
Come on, people! There ARE artistic ways to shoot from the back and still get great images / footage!
