The (almost ) 30 year war…
My wife and I have been at war for most of our marriage, anduntil recently I never even realized it….It’s one of those quiet wars where nothing is said, but you can tell by our actions. It’s a very serious matter and I’ve wondered if there is counseling for this, and today I even Googled it to see if I was right or wrong. (Because as a guy that’s what it’s all about,right? Not what’s best but just to be right…)
It’s a very serious matter, and I’m reluctant to even postthis up on the blog for fear I may well start disagreements in what have been otherwise healthy marriages….
Ready?
Does your toilet paper go over the top or under the bottom (punintended…) I have come to realize that we practice a quiet form of resolving this issue…I change it when I use the bathroom and she changes it back when she does. (but our kids also use the bathroom, so I wonder if they have been pulled into this battlefield?)
So the question I have for you is which way does the toiletpaper roll in your house?
And even more telling of how deep a psychiatric issue thisis with you, when you use someone else’s loo and it’s not how you use it do you assume they made a mistake and fix it for them, or give them the benefit of the doubt and leave it be?
Do you change it when you use someone else’s bathroom?
Now I’m not saying that I’m right – at least not in print where it can be held against me – but all I know is that hotels, motels andoffices where the tp is changed by PROFESSIONALS – which way do they hang it? Why over of course. And who am I to challenge the knowledge of those who do this for a living?
What say you?

IF you have animals, like cats or ferrets, then you MUST put it over the top. Or else you risk having a papered house if you ferret gets particularly bored or in the mood to nest. :laugh: It’s mind boggling just how fast and far they can run with TP in their mouths and NOT have it tear.
we hang it over the top just because when I clean I have a bad habit of making the end of it into a little triangle like at the hotels. LOL. it dont really matter here, as long as there is some there when we go! LOL.
This is serious. It’s over the top, reason being that the TP will thus hang down away from the wall on which the roll holder is mounted. You don’t wanna be hittin’ that wall everytime, and if everyone does it, you’ll have an increased chance of transfering an infection. Also, if using someone else’s…I leave it be, it’s not my place…
Speaking of Tp have you noticed the cost now at Sams and Costco for a Charmain 32 pak? $18.00!! All paper products have gone sky high in the past two years. A 3lb bag of Walnuts last year was only $8.43 at Sams Club, now if over $15.00 per bag!!
Dang right, this is serious!
First, let me just say I’m pretty anal about this subject. Over the top is absolutely correct. Believe it or not, I’ve actually changed it at someone else’s house before, but I don’t anymore because I’ve accepted the fact that most people will, in the end, learn from their own mistakes.
(But I’ll be sure to correct it at your house if it’s not right when I use the bathroom. :giggle:!)
Secondly, early on in our marriage I asked George if he cared one way or the other which way the paper hangs..he said he didn’t, so I called dibs on hanging it over the top. And we’ve lived happily ever after since.
Truth is…I’m happy when there’s a roll there at all and the last person hasn’t left it empty…:goodjob:
I’m with you 100%
Is there a household anywhere where this has not been an issue at some time – lol ! At least there haven’t been thousands of deaths in this war…
War???!!! Before you start gloating Mark…Let’s talk about an even more serious bathroom problem and that is falling into the toilet in the middle of the night!!! :nono:
As to the piddly (pun intented):rolleyes: toilet paper issue… I find it easier to just give it a spin since I dont always know which way it is going to go. That has become my habit of getting my squares by just spinning it. Pulling it away from the top just seems wrong from the angle of our toilet to the roll…I can see how it might work to some advantage in some situations but not all…I am an equal opportunity toilet paper hanger. So if you pull from the top so be it…but I am afraid from where I sit it just begs to be spun with the squares landing just right. It is a science! :giggle:
I still love you…:love: except when I fall in!
:sleepy:Time to get back to working on your wedding pics from the weekend and stop all the nonsense about Toliet paper! Besides all the really smart people know its over the top, even though my wife just yelled at me and said its her preferance to have it go under.
Im just happy we have TP and really dont care which way it goes as long as when Im visiting someones home or business that they have it when its needed. Have you ever gone to a friends house for a party or dinner, to only find out after you’ve sat down to look over and there is NO TP!!! You look over and open the cabinet under the sink and still no TP or kleenex, nothing! What do you do then? This is when your cell phone comes into play and you make that embarressing call to your spouse and tell them you are stranded, stranded on a toilet bowl, what will you do when you’re stranded, and you can’t find a roll!! hey that was a song we used to sing as kids! Ha!
TP I put mine over the top
No matter where I go if it’s the other way I go and turn it over the top.
I’m the same way with paper towels. I even change the tp around in public places too that’s if they don’t have these things around them where you can not get them out cause the thing is locked.

Randy, I’m here for you and have the answer to your “remote” question. Buy her a duplicate one, and take the batteries out….
I didn’t realize this was such a sore subject and that there would be so many opinions on what seemed to be just a random thought the other day.
OK, now on to more serious subjects – like our wedding pics!!
seeming as how this subject seems so serious, it should be a part of an agreement signed before marriage. maybe if we offer this service in addition to our photography services, we can get more referals? so not only do we document their special day, but we also help them get rollin’ (pun intended) =P in terms of the whole falling in the tiolet issue, it’s just a matter of lookin’ before tinklin’…goes for both male and females…
over the top. lid down.
he, he… i had a good morning laugh with this post! The wedding photo you posted above is stunning!!! Bood work.
And I vote for over – but like other comments, just glad its there.
oops, I meant GOOD WORK.
Over the top. How else could we make that nice initial “v” fold like the hotels do?
@dimsom - You are not old enough yet but when you get older you gotta get up in the middle of the night too! 2 am is not a good time to find yourself swimming in toilet water!
Just put the seat down after use for us poor old folks!!! Start early start young! Before you know it you will be one too!!
@lydellphoto -
well to be respectful to my favorite gender, I do put the seat down…I was just sayin’ =P
So funny!!! I don’t have that battle since I live alone, but perhaps I can give you a word of wisdom. I have this clear thingy that fits over the roll and it holds a second roll. Maybe you could get one of those and one roll could be for you and the other roll for your spouse?????
love u…
@ForHisGlory2 -
You are so funny and sweet…Mark and I really arent battling. I think he just found something to post and thought it would be funny. We have really never ever even had a discussion about toilet paper. But definitely about the toilet seat!
Thanks for the great idea tho!!!
Love Kerri

@dimsom -
Good! When you get married, your wife will love you for it! No matter how the toilet paper goes….
:sunny:
@ShutterbugTim -
Ya know I have never made that V. Never even thought of it!
@joyfulphotography -
Thanks for the comment on the sneak peek photo!!! Glad you had a good laugh…its good to start the day out with a good laugh…or even a chuckle! Good to see you!
@robinone -
Hi Robin! Hows it goin? Yes lid down!!! Toilet paper is such a non issue for me. haha
@slmret -
Yes! A good war with no casualities! lol I really dont care which way the tp goes but I do resent falling in!
@kennyahn -
Such a funny post. We havent had this many people comment in a long time. On toilet paper no less…hahaha
@lydellphoto -
gosh, i’ll do whatever for her. if she wants it sideways, i’ll have to build a mount to do it…
hmmm as an after thought, maybe this is way males have more back problems than females it seems, it’s cuz of the tiolet seats!!!
@jondacrafts -
Funny, I have had so many cats in my lifetime and that only happened once and that was to a friend’s house. I always keep my bathroom door shut so my cat does not go in there. She would rather play with the bathmat anyway…lol
@TheLittleGirlInMe -
Agreed 100%!!!
@mommyfish -
Hahaha…pretty anal about this subject….hahahaha Good one!
@Borelfoto -
Yay Laura!!! I knew someone out there had to have some sense!

@ForHisGlory2 -
Okay I think we have the answer here lets put this thing to bed now! Great link Hazie!!
Hmmmm Having been taught by my parents TP should be hung…..
all over the front yard of your best friend’s homes!
We taught this to my daughter and her friends too :p
@lydellphoto - We had two ferrets when I was in middle/high school. Both of them ‘nested’ which meant anything soft and fluffy was fair game. And it didn’t matter who might be over visiting. They’d come dashing through the living room TP streaming behind them, or a pair of undies that didn’t quite make it into the hamper clutched in their teeth. Quite the conversation starter!
@jondacrafts -
@jondacrafts -
Oh man that is embarrassing!!! The undies part anyway…lol the tp would be hilarious to see!
I have heard they are quite mischievious!
OVER THE TOP! Sorry Kerri! Love you though. If it makes you feel any better… Bob and I have this same issue. He’s the opposite of me. It ALWAYS drives me crazy! This is too funny! You guys crack me up! xoxoxxo ~ Dawn
speaking as the oldest child in the lydell clan….YES WE’VE BEEN DRUG IN!!!!!!!!!!!! Still, when visiting and I use the restroom, I flip it back to ………..DRUMROLL PLEASE……under!!!!!!! hahahah
Alright Kerri! if you ever DO come visit me in WA… I better not find all my toidy room tp’s switched around… LOL over the top in our house… even MY Mark agrees… ROFPIMT….
ShutterbugD…. <—bored in a motel room so she’s surfing back in people’s blogs… :wave:
@Shutterbugd - OH NO!! Not another one!!! lol!!! Wow you must really be bored!!! lol
Okay I promise I wont….if you tell me what ROFPIMT stands for!
Kerri
we’re home!!
Tater won’t leave my side… I have cat hair all over me… even in my contacts… he saw me come through the door and came running…. :heartbeat: was so glad to see him… and son too! :p of course…. LOL
rolling on floor peeing in my toilet….. snicker….wondered if you would get that… HA instead of PIMP… since we were talking about TP! :spinning: so bored and had to amuse myself…. heehee
@Shutterbugd - OHHHH!!!! I would have never ever ever guessed that one! I am afraid to ask what PIMP is! Well I just got in our mini getaway was just that! MINI! Haha…thats okay we packed alot into it. We had the best unit (we hav e Trendwest Timeshare and we never know what unit we will get. We had the best view overlooking the golfcourse. This was the Angels Camp Resort we went to. We have a bunch we can go and use throughout the US and other countries too…We jsut love it and it has been the best investment!!!
Anyway, we saw Steve Miller and Joe Cocker at The Iron Stone Winery Ampitheatre. So cool….We spent the day coming home stopping at all the little towns along the route back home and got out our cameras and tripods and just enjoyed shooting fun stuff. We even met a really nice photographer in Jackson who we hope to meet up with again. Loved her stuff!!!
Well I gotta keep moving the part I hate about coming home is unpacking…
Glad for Tater that you are home!!
Kerri
