  • Free Hugs

I got this from Kenny Ahn’s cousin Danie Jung’ site from a few days ago….

    Love… love… love it!!!!

    Started by Juan Mann

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whos sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.

  • EDIT: Upon Closer Inspection…

This is why it is important to use Photoshop to look closely at your image BEFORE you post it or show to to anyone. Sometimes there are details that only show up when you zoom in. For instance, when I looked at the possum picture closer I found something I wasn’t expecting. These darn digital cameras – sometimes the sensor picks up details that the naked eye can’t see. I put it next to the picture so you can look at them together.

    You be the judge…

    We shot a Possum!

    Possum  Possum2

We shot him with my 5D… are you kidding??? I love animals!!!! So this is what I found in my driveway standing on a stack of firewood. He had the cutest pink nose and paws…I felt so sorry for it because I knew it had to be really scared! We were only just a few feet away. I think it just froze like that becuse that is what possums do, they prentend to be dead but I guess he forgot to lay down!

    hahaha…

I just realized something…this must be what my dog was barking at the other night…he was really worked up about something at the back fence…I am glad he couldnt get to it.

When I saw him I called for Mark to bring the camera…grabbing my 5D which as many of you know doesn’t have on board flash and it was pitch black outside. I got back into my car and backed up until my headlights had him in its sights….then Mark shot him….Good shot eh?

I hope he has a good home somewhere….or that he is possibly someone’s pet?? Living in town it is hard to believe he just wandered here…from the forest!

Anyone see OVER THE HEDGE??? You gotta go see it…I was expecting either William Shatner or Avril Levine’s voice to come out of that possum….lol!

Okay so that was my big surprise….haha

If you missed Chapter I go to Friday’s post to read before reading Chapter II.

    Pillars of Time

    Chapter II

    ©Brian Lydell

A strong breeze stirred up the sands, blowing it into the traveler’s eyes. He lifted an arm to shield his face, muttering under his breath about the sandstorms of late. His companion, a young girl looking about teenaged, grasped the veil covering her eyes tighter. She was walking a short distance behind him out of respect for their village tradition. A woman must never supersede the position of a man was the principle that the Bedouin village had imbedded into her heart and mind since childhood. Even from a few feet away, the persistent rain of sand nearly hid the traveler from her sight. She quickened her pace. If she were separated from her master, she would surely die; if not from the desert, than by thieves or another Bedouin tribe. The sandstorm died down a bit and let her see her master now standing still, looking out left and right as if to check for a sign of direction.
“Sand makes it hard to see where the sun is. Can’t tell where north is, I can’t. fetch me water from the skins, Dharkah.” The traveler unveiled his white garment covering his head, revealing a leathery face hardened by years in the desert climate and almost as tanned as the earth itself. His arms were gaunt, nimbly moving around like sticks as he clutched the goat wool skin and lifted it above his head. Sweet precious water descended like a waterfall into his mouth as he greedily consumed. Dharkah merely looked on. It was not her place to object. She wore all black as custom dictated, the only part of her showing through were the sunken eyes, behind a black veil, used to looking down. There was a deep quality in them that made her master uneasy to look into them, which was often why he ordered her to cover them with a veil in public. In this case, it was simply necessary to keep the sand out. The old man hurriedly covered his face again before the sand found its way into the deep recesses of his eyes. Tapping his stick audibly on a rock, he motioned them onwards.

From above, a faint thing passed them by, unseen by the old traveler. In the thick whipping sand, it appeared to Dharkah like something or someone moving around them, a shadow seen only by its shape.
“Well, what is it?” the old man stopped when he realized she was not following him.
She tried to sound convincing, “Bandits? Animals? It did not make a sound.”
With a brush of the hand, the traveler shook it off, “You hear things. Too much. I do not like thinking about it. We will forget about it.” He spoke flatly.
“But, it could be danger, master. Surely we should take caution.”
“If we could not see it then it could not see us. We will forget about it.” he dramatically waved his hand in a conclusive gesture.
Dharka let her eyes sink to the ground as she was accustomed to. She fell silent but peered about both ways when she thought she saw it again. The traveler took no notice or pretended not to. He continued hobbling on his stick and grunting with each step as loudly as before.

“Come back, Thesda.” The deep authoritative voice of Raven commanded. Within seconds the leopard angel reappeared.
“Well,” said Amriel, “What is it you found out?”
“Two travelers, a man and a woman. Bedouins. In this sandstorm, they did not witness our descent.”
“Good.: Raven said, “We still have our secrecy.”
Amriel looked at him confused, “What is the reason for this? Why must we not be seen?”
“His Will must be followed. This is what I am hearing. For now, we work unseen, not letting the right hand know what the left hand is doing. We are forbidden to call upon our highest power unless in the direst need. We also do not have permission for the mission to challenge a fallen angel. Unless you would like to become one after we report back.”
“This has never happened before.” Amriel said.
“Not likely to happen again either. We must work towards our goals with utmost secrecy. This will be easier than it sounds. The older traveler did not sense us. The younger one, having more intuitive sense, felt us but did not know who we were. Good tidings.”

The angels landed quietly on the side of a sand dune. Amriel’s white robe fluttered in the wind, changing its colors at a hypnotic rate.
Thesda broke the silence, “It will not bode well for us if we are seen then. What if we are?”
Raven spoke for the first time with uncertainty, “I do not know, young one. You must let them know at least to Fear Not and then retreat before they say anything. It will be worse still if any of us talks further to them.”
Thesda pondered over his words as they set to work. Amriel began to sing in a subdued whisper as he clasped both hands to his forehead. His voice rose and fell with the howling wind, which began to noticeably quicken and swirl in huge gusts around them. In a few minutes, it had formed an invisible barrier against the outside world, and Thesda began to tremble.
“When I asked if I could journey with you, I did not know I traveled with two of the Unrent!”
“No! Do not call us that!” snapped Amriel. “In this realm, we are simply able to contact the Lord of Heaven freely, as are its inhabitants.” He returned to singing, but Thesda continued to keep his eye on him warily.
Raven, meanwhile, was now flapping his wings in suspended flight above the earth, pounding the steep hill of sand into submission with massive gusts of wind. A hollowed-out cave began to form, burgeoning with every muscular thrust of Raven’s wings. When it was finished, a rough-hewn clearing delved deep inside. He turned his head backward to regard the now doublestruck Thesda.
“Possibly the most physically tedious world yet,” Raven said, “The landscape isn’t quite so…malleable as I thought.”
Thesda gawked incredulously, peering  cautiously into the shadowy tunnel. Amriel finished his whispering melody with an anxious clenching of his fists, then slowly opened them, pushing his hands outward and letting them rest a moment over the land. Opening his eyes halfway, he looked at them both as if from a great distance.
“It is purged, for a time, but the wards will not last forever.” Then he wordlessly disappeared into the enclave, accompanied quickly by Raven. Thesda remained behind.
“There they go. My first expedition and I’m already outclassed baggage.” He spoke again in a low whisper, “I never remember being able to think this way. Something about this world is different, like Amriel was saying. Something is different.” he repeated that phrase to himself in a hushed whisper as he plunged into the darkness of the cave.

    The Pillars of Time

    Part 1

    ***********************************

“Go forth,” rang a thundering voice.

“Your name be praised, Most High, we will go,” several voices, still awesome but not so much like the first, spoke.

From the highest heaven, the angels came down, radiating in their golden glory, descending in great sweeps of their six white wings. Of them, one of them had the appearance of a man, pearl white hair flowing in the wind and golden skinned. His eyes were bright like fire that pierced to the marrow of those who it saw, burning like a furnace. He wore a robe that flashed every color of the rainbow as it rippled. The second angel had the appearance of a leopard, with dark black pupils ferociously glaring out from the orange and black splotched face. He stood and flew upright, his yellow underbelly hiding muscles fit to outmatch any man on earth. The third was a great falcon-like bird black as onyx. The breadth of his wingspan reached twice his body height, and as he flew with his natural wings, the six angelic wings rose and fell almost in time with them.

The sacred realm of heaven, shining like a golden ocean and filled with the praise of the Most High echoing through the air with the voices of men and beasts, passed away slowly into empty blackness. Soon, they could see the stars radiating, but not so magnificently as they were. The last echoing sounds of heaven were left behind. It was only the three soaring bright specks, illuminating the abyss around them.

They headed towards one star that seemed just as ordinary as any other. It grew into the sun, and the faintest traces of Pluto were visible. One of the angels hesitated at it and looked at his friends questioningly.

“No, it is not it’s time yet,” said human angel Amriel, “the Most High has not yet unrolled the scroll. No one in heaven or earth or under the earth knows His will for here. Only the third planet has been revealed in the scroll.”

“May His plans be blessed, but I greatly wish to see what is to come in the ages to come. Many times I wish to be like Him, so that I may know and understand” The leopard angel Thesda said ruefully.

“Be careful in what you think, Thesda. It is that thinking that cast the Dark Angel Lucifer in the pits of the nameless void. May He look down with mercy on me, but may the Lord rebuke you in His mercy and show you grace.” Said Amriel, in a kind but firm voice.

“I am not like the fallen one. I do not wish for power or might or supremacy,” Thesda said, “Where there is greed and pride in Lucifer’s heart, I have only the earnest desire to know the depths of what He only comprehends. I would not betray the Most High.”

“Then let us be off, and let us forget of our wishings and longings for the mission ahead.” Grunted the bird angel Raven, “For I have traveled to earth, and have gone to Mars and Venus many times before when His plan called me there. Too many times has an angel been lost to the Dark One for needless pining.”

“Let it be so,” Thesda quickly said, masking irritation, and they took flight once more.

Earth appeared lush and blue as they approached. Great billowing masses of clouds circulated its atmosphere, almost covering the brown and green land shapes beneath it.

“Strange,” remarked Thesda, “It no longer seems so lush as before. What has happened here, I wonder?”

“Most likely the same things that have always happened before. Industry. They have found out it is possible to ease their lives by some means, though how I do not know. If it is anything like it was on Venus, it is probably the discovery of infinite light energy.”

Raven peered down with sad eyes on the blue planet, “Yes, not quite unlike Venus. We can only hope all is not lost as it was there.”

“Now, now,” spoke Amriel, “Nothing is ever lost or without hope.

There is nothing that is beyond the power of the Word. It shines in the darkness and…”

“…the darkness cannot snuff it out,” interrupted Raven. “True words, and I wouldn’t contend with them. Needless to say, the world is still spinning on its axis and it isn’t reduced to uninhabitable blue dust yet.”

“Good tidings. We were able to nip them in the bud early on at Babel before they became too mighty. It is said a man at his full potential can challenge an angel.” Said Amriel.

“Your talk almost makes me envious of them. They’re mere flesh and blood, is that not so?” said Thesda.

“Yes, but their spirits are resilient and strong. They’re just like the Most High at times, these ones, but when they’re not…” Amriel trailed off.

    “When they’re not…?” asked Thesda.

“Are we going down, or shall we stay here and let them find out how to destroy themselves while we watch?” spoke Raven gruffly.

“Burn me, Raven, you’re anxious about this one, aren’t you?” Thesda said.

“I’m just tired of hearing this incessant noise. If we’re going, we should go now.”

Silently, they complied. The small planet grew and loomed before them, emitting a low thunderous rumble, while the vague outlines of continents became detailed and recognizable. The oceans took on a wavy texture and the mountain ranges could be distinguished from land. The golden glow of the angels faded against the atmospheric barrier that seemed to burn against them in hot white flame, but had no effect on them. They now stuck together, flying with two angels side by side and the other above them, forming a triangle, and kept their arms straight on their sides as they burst like needles through the burning atmosphere. They kept silent, but in their minds they marveled at what they saw. Mars and Venus had never been quite like this. All of them secretly thought there was something special about this world that the others didn’t have, especially since the number three was a rather fond number of Most High, and this happened to be the third planet. By now, all the glorious golden glow of the angels had faded, and they almost appeared normal by terrestrial terms were they not gigantic, ether worldly and downright scary to a human. Their wings took as beating as well. The white luster had all but faded into dull white. They had shrunk as well.

‘I hate when this happens,” said Thesda, “Whenever we go to a planet we lose our aura and wings until our mission is complete. Its like He doesn’t trust us.”

“Even angels can disobey, and the last thing He wants is an angel doing whatever he wants and returning without His will being fulfilled.” Said Raven.

“But He knows us. We’ve gone out many times before and always done as expected. There is no ill will in us that we would want to carry out against them. Even if we didn’t have the experience, He knows our deepest hearts and that we wouldn’t try anything.”

“It isn’t wise to speak against what is preordained by the Most High, young one. All angels must follow it.” Raven said.

Thesda fell silent, having nothing to say to an older and wiser one than he.

As the earth became very clear, Amriel broke the silence, “Where are we going?”

Raven cocked an eye at him, “Same place as always: the middle. The birthplace of its civilization is often the best place to start.

In their tongue, they call it the Middle East, but that goes against their own proper syntax ironically, having an east that is middle. Ah, but they can be very funny creatures at times.”

“No more than the Martians,” spoke Amriel, “Its most unfortunate you were not yet of age enough to join us when the scroll opened and revealed its prophecy. I cannot describe it in words for you, but their geographical terms defied all common logic for aesthetic taste. Imagine an undermountain or a cliffvale. It all sounded good to their eyes, so they named otherwise ordinary landmarks completely outlandish names.”

Raven spoke almost mournfully “And it is a shame that the prophecy foretold the world must be destroyed like Venus and reduced to red dust. If it were my place, I’d almost say it was an insult. But I cannot see the whole picture in the Pillars of Time, where only He can walk. This planet is beautiful, maybe more so than Venus, and maybe even more incredible than Mars. May the scroll be revealed, but let this world be spared.”

“We can only hope. For now, there is only the mission ahead.” Amriel said.

  • THE CRISIS PREGNANCY BANQUET!

PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING YOUR LOCAL CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTER…

… they really stand in the gap for so many …you might be surprised all the things they offer those who are in crisis…

On Friday night our local CPC had their annual fundraising banquet. My sister Lorri and I have been volunteer decorators for the last 6 years. We met every week with Mimi and Pam for months whom we have worked with for most of those 6 years. This year our theme was:

ALL ARE PRECIOUS IN HIS SIGHT

When Dean Lauer the director of the CPC gave us the medallion prototype of the artwork we set to work to design the look of the evening around it. Immediately it spoke to us about kids and their cultures around the world. We chose 6 countries and began to work that up. We also worked up the stage decorations and the table centerpiece as well as the lobby and vignettes in the back that would be displayed with the PHOTOGRAPHS that I was able to solicit from photography friends around the country. It came together beautifully. Mimi did a fantastic job pulling together all the items for the vignettes. She owns an antique store and solicited her antique owner friends to loan clothing and items that paired with the countries we chose for the vignettes. Pamand Mimi did a fantastic job getting those all set up. I then added the awesome photography work to each vignette and we had some very cultural and interesting vignettes! Pam also pulled together the napkin fold for the evening as well as the flower display on each table that represented each country as well as getting the GreenHouse kids who did the Tree Hand artwork for us . Lorri kept it altogether by being the head of the team and keeping all the minutes of our meetings keeping us on task and setting up our workdays where we all got together to paint the centerpiece urns and the other art projects…It took 2 days to set up the numerous areas of interest. We set up in the lobby, dining tables, stage, vignette area…There was alot of work put into this and since it is a fundraiser we had to do it all on a very tight budget which is why I want to especially thank:

BOB AND DAWN DAVIS of LASTORIAFOTO

    SCOTT ROBERT LIM

    KENNY AHN (for BRIAN SOON)

    SARA GARNER

    COREY POLIS

As well as LETICIA from our local AARON BROTHERS for the matting work she did for the photographs. They were all very beautiful and represented exactly what we needed.

    THANK YOU!!!!!

Here are the pictures we got before the event started….since we couldn’t make it we brought our camera when it was all up and ready and got some shots….

THANK YOU TO MY HUSBAND MARK FOR HELPING EVERY YEAR WITH ME AND FOR THIS SLIDESHOW HE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR ME THIS YEAR!!!
