Christmas Eve in Downtown Sacramento
Downtown on our way to the ice rink ….
Mr. Snowman watching over the lonely ice rink….
Lone shoppers hurrying home
A stained glass melancholy moment
The children have all gone home to wait for their gifts
Taking a cigarette break he looks out on the cool Christmas Eve
downtown street under the cover of a bridgeEven the streets are empty of their chariots…leaving behind
only their red steaks….Leaving Kst mall and walking to Old Sac
Old Sac is known for its trains!
and for Joe’s Crab Shack….
What a fun colorful place!
Joe’s elf hard at work!
Just outside is this beautiful view….
A newly wed in need of a camera operator so they can have
a shot together! What a great looking couple! Some parting shots as we leave downtown…
Of course what wedding photographer could resist some
beautiful dresses we saw in the store windows on the way out of town!

Wow — Old Sac has really changed since I was there (of course, that was 20 years ago!). Maybe I should come back for a visit sometime soon! That’s a great view of the (K St ?) bridge, and I love the blue Christmas tree in front of the Capitol — how appropriate that it should be so muted.
These are great. What a treat to just shoot for fun. Love the blue/purple tree…
The magic tripod time!
I’ve been wanting to go out around 4 pm and photograph my town too.
Were you all taking pictures, there is such a mix of moods and styles above.
I love that tree by the hard rock sign it’s my kind of tree :heartbeat:
always wanted a tree that big nice and tall and very full.
All of the pictures are just beautieful oh the other one of my fav. is the boat at dock with the lights on the bridge love that one too. Thanks so much for shareing those wounderful pictures.

@broncomom - Hi Mary! No tripods this trip. You are right we all brought our cameras. There were so many more of course but this was enough to post to give everyone a feel for Sacramento at Christmas…
@mommyfish - Its funny our City of Roseville tree is all purply blue too. Yes, it was so much fun to shoot for fun. Tomorrow Mark and Brian get back to work on our last wedding then we can really break. Should be done and ready to post by the end of the week.
@MJ10554 - I love that Capitol tree it was really gorgeous but it was cold and we didnt want to park and walk up to get a better shot since we were on our way home. But I am glad to get this shot anyway. Glad you got to come along with us to visit our fair city. How was your Christmas? I gotta stop in and visit soon!
looks like everything in suspended animation for christmas…. sf chinatown here is bustling on christmas like any other day.
Great set! I hope your family had a great Christmas. Ours was busy…but lots of fun!
@lelandwong - lol Yes it was suspended. It was kinda a bummer and kinda cool. I wouldhave loved to have spent Christmas Eve in the City! Especially Chinatown!
@ShutterbugTim - Thanks Tim, its the funnest kind of shoot to just wander and get inspired. We had a really great Christmas! Christmas Eve we got to set up all our cameras at church and catch all the fun from every angle. The guy in the white angel outfit hanging from the rafters was supposed to fat and wearing a tutu…that was one big reason I agreed to help shoot the event….lol j/k
Beautiful. That first wedding dress looks like a mound of snow. And we have Joe’s Crab Shack’s here. The founder, Tillman Fertita, lives in Houston.
Oh that looked like a lot of fun. Great pics! I always have this urge to shoot personal stuff in January. Let’s go out one night and do some painting with light. We can even do that on dark places during the day.
@robinmichelini - Lets do it! I love shooting at night. Painting at night is so much fun too….Hey, love your new profile pic girl~
@SingingMom - There was a beatiful red one too! I love the snow mound dress…they were just so beautiful standing there…Oh so is that the original Crab Shack then?
@lydellphoto - The original Joe’s Crab Shack was on Richmond Avenue in southwest Houston. But there are now 120 locations in 28 states, according to their website. There are 4 that I know of in the Houston area, but one of them was in Kemah, and was destroyed by Hurricane Ike. It’s about 30 minutes from us. Fertitta also owns several other chains like Landry’s Seafood and Saltgrass Steakhouse. Here’s a site that shows the places he owns:
http://www.landrysrestaurants.com/pages/restaurants/pg_restaurants.htm
Other interesting news on him and his family: He is a member of the Maceo family that came over from Sicily (to Louisiana) and moved to Galveston in 1910. They were into bootlegging and ran an illegal gambling place, in addition to restaurants and other businesses. One famous place was just destroyed during Hurricane Ike, called the Balinese Room. It was on a pier in the Gulf of Mexico.
I never made this connection until a few minutes ago….there was a Galveston County Sheriff’s Deputy who was head of the beach patrol in Galveston for 40 years, named Vic Maceo. He was the great-grandnephew of the original Maceos who ran the Balinese. So he was on the right side of the law, while his ancestors were on the wrong side.
Probably more than you ever wanted to know about Tilman Fertitta and his family.
heeeyyy I’ve been there!! many times… but prob won’t go there again for a LONG time… LOL great pics!!
:fun: Know wonder you caught a cold, you were out in that cold, freezing rainy weather at Christmas time in old sac! Great shots by the way.
