    OH NIGHT DIVINE…..

    026 Adventure Christmas.jpg

The Christmas Story from Start to Finish

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. There was darkness over the whole earth. God said, “Let there be light” and there was light to light the earth. God created the plants, the flowers and the trees. He created the fruits, apples, oranges, grapes, and all the good things to eat. Then God created the animals, large and small. After this God created man and called him Adam. Then God saw that Adam needed a helper and He created woman and Adam named her Eve. [Genesis 1:-30]

Now God had planted all the plants in a garden and He placed Adam and Eve in the garden to take care of the plants and the animals. Then God brought all the animals to Adam and had him name them. Whatever Adam called them that became their names. He named the bears, the lions, the cats, the dogs, the elephants. He named all the animals.

God looked at what He had created and saw that it was all good. The plants and fruits and vegetables and nuts were good for food for Adam and Eve and all the animals. They all lived together and were not afraid of each other. The animals were not afraid of Adam and Eve, and Adam and Eve were not afraid of the animals, not even the lions or bears. They all lived together. [Genesis 2:8, 15-19]

God made one fruit tree in the Garden of Eden that Adam and Eve were not to eat from. They could eat any other fruit or plant but not from this one tree. Now the serpent was more crafty than the other animals and it told Eve that God didn’t want her and Adam to eat from that tree because then they would become like God and know good from evil and right from wrong. Eve looked at the tree and ate from it, and Adam her husband ate from it too, even though he knew it was wrong.

Now up to this time Adam and Eve didn’t have clothes, but they were not ashamed. Once they ate from the tree that God told them not to eat from, they realized that they were naked and they were very ashamed and embarrassed. They tried to hide themselves by sewing together fig leaves as clothes. They hid from God, but of course He knew where they were. He was very angry with them.

They had sinned by doing what He told them not to do. Because of their sin, all of creation changed. Adam and Eve were put out of the garden of Eden and not allowed back in. Also God told them that the punishment for sin was death and that very day they started to grow old and would eventually die.

God told them that because of their sins, even the animals would grow old and die, and that they must pay for their sins with the blood of an animal. So God took an animal and killed it to cover them with clothes. They felt terrible because all the animals were their friends and the animals hadn’t done anything wrong, yet one of the poor animals had to die so that they could cover their shame.

With all the bad news, God also gave them some good news. He promised that He would send someone to take away their shame and sin forever. He didn’t tell them when this would happen, but He promised them that He would provide this person to save them from their sins.

Because of the sin that Adam and Eve committed, the animals became afraid of them, and they became afraid of the animals. Because of their sins, pain and suffering came into the world. Everything changed, and some things were not nice anymore. [Genesis 3]

God did not send this person who was going to take away their sins right away. It was a long time later that God spoke to a man named Isaiah and told him to tell the people that God would still send a child that would save them from their shame and sins. This child would be a Son, given to the world as a savior and a king. He would save them from their sins and He would love them and show them how much God still loved them. [Isaiah 9:6]

Many years later God sent an angel to talk to a young woman whose name was Mary. The angel told Mary that she was being honored by God and would have a baby who would save the world from their sins and that she was to call His name Jesus. This child named Jesus was the Son that God had promised, He was God’s Son, but was going to be born to Mary so that He could save the world. [Luke 1:42]

So Mary became pregnant and while she was pregnant she and her new husband had to travel to a small town called Bethlehem. They had to go because the King had decided that he wanted to count everyone, so they had to go to where they were born. Mary and her husband Joseph went to Bethlehem and a lot of other people did too. Mary was almost ready to give birth and the trip was very hard on her, so she rode on a donkey. When they arrived at Bethlehem, they found that there were so many people already there that there was no place for them to stay.

They ended up sleeping in a barn with the animals and Mary gave birth to Jesus and wrapped Him in a blanket and laid Him in the manger where hay was that the animals ate for food. [Luke 2:1-7]

During all this time, every year the people had to kill a lamb as a payment for their sins, but when Jesus grew up, He died so that He could cover our sins once and for all and we never again have to kill an animal to cover our sins. When Jesus died for us He also came back to life after three days and now lives in heaven and helps us when we need help. [Matthew 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; John 20]

God loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to earth to die for us and save us from our sins. [John 3:16]

One day Jesus is coming back to earth and He will make things back to the way they were before Adam and Eve sinned. Then we will not have to be afraid of the animals anymore and they won’t be afraid of us anymore. There won’t be any more tears, or death, or pain and sadness and we will live with Jesus forever. [Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:3-4;]

  • H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y K E L L Y !!!

It is so hard to believe that today is our oldest daughter’s 33rd birthday!
Kelly is Jayden’s mom for those who dont know.
I have been thinking about her and the last 33 years.
She has always been a vibrant, beautiful, smart and loving person.
I dont have any of her pictures of her when she was little because I have yet to scan them. It’s gonna be a big big job!

The fountain was really cool it has this fog that comes up and it changes colors to the music
that they play every 20 min or so.
It was a hot day so it felt good when it sprayed us.

  • Nutcracker, Part II

Our very good friends invited us to see their daughter Jaimy perform the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker last night. After our last post I was able to get through the pics to put together a short slideshow of the evening. The costumes and colors were amazing as were the dancers!

The entire dance troupe did a great job on this – We’ve never seen the Nutcracker live before and it was an incredible experience!

Now I want to see Jaimy dance every time she dances!

  • The Nutcracker and our Sugar Plum Fairy…Jaimy!

Scott and Donna invited us to watch their Jaimy dance tonight and we were so excited! We had never seen The Nutcracker nor Jaimy dance even tho we have known her for years now…You might remember we did her 16th Birthday Party last December well as her Baptism a few years ago. When Mark had his brain tumor (1995) little Jaimy prayed every night for the hole in Mr. Mark’s head. Now she has grown up into a beautiful young lady who has amazing poise and completely WOW’d us tonight…Here are some shots from the show. No flash of course and no tripod so this is the best we could get. Enjoy!

  • A First Birthday!

Earlier this month Gabriel turned one, and it was a great birthday party at the Johns house! It’s always fun to watch a kid play with his food on the one day he is really allowed to get his hands into the cake!

We returned the next day for a private session with Gabriel and he was sooooooo good for the camera.

  • Jamie & Joaquin @ Arcade Baptist & The Firehouse Restaurant, Sacramento, CA

Jamie and Joaquin had a beautiful wedding even tho the rain conspired against them it ended up being a blessing in many ways.(Aside, of course, the old saying that it is lucky to rain on your wedding day.)

We got some great umbrella shots which we love! Everything just looks so cool wet, too….the streets and the lights just glow…but not as much as the bride and groom…thank you for letting us be a part of your day and meeting all of your friends and family you were all a blast to work with.

    Enjoy!

Make sure to check out the slideshow of that day on the side bar to the left.

Fast forward to their wedding day at Avio Vineyards in Sutter Creek. The day was absolutely amazing, the view behind them was stunning, and the sunset at the end of the day was a photographer’s dream! Not to mention a beautiful bride and a handsome groom!

  • Markmallows! Yummy!!!!!!!

Last week I received an order of homemade marshmallows in the mail and fell in love. I had to find a way to make my own so I went out on the internet and lo and behold there were lots of recipes out there! So, to the store I went with my list. I always wondered what they were made from. I took it all to my daughter’s house while we trimmed her tree I made marshmallows. I used a recipe that was so confusing that I think I messed up a step and they turned out too wet. So today I decided to make some more here in my own kitchen and I took pictures! For those of you who need pictures I have you covered.

Here we have my candy making corner. This is the vanilla which the recipe calls for and the peppermint extract and red food coloring because I am just that crazy…

    Markmallows-2 Markmallows-4

Getting ready: Here is the candy thermometer which I found to be super important! And my super cool ceramic measuirng spoons totally
not cool when they crash and break on the floor. : (  and yes I like to tape my recipes onto the wall, cupobards or whatever. It is at just
the right distance for me so I dont have to break out the reading glasses. Note: I renamed these to MARKMALLOWS in honor of my
    sweet husband.

    Markmallows-5 Markmallows-6

Here the syrup mixture is getting a beating…note the color is not white!

    Markmallows-7 Markmallows-8

The mixture takes a beating for 15 minutes! Oh look it is beginning to turn white!

    Markmallows-9 Markmallows-10

ooooo….lala…. let’s test the texture! Hmmm a bit thick I think. Wonder if that is going to be a problem….

    Markmallows-11 Markmallows-12

It was a bit difficult getting that gooeyness into the powder dusted pan. But we managed to wrestle it and win. I know it doesnt take the
blue ribbon for beauty but it sure does smell good! Now to let it sit ovenight uncovered. Yeah right!

    Markmallows-13 Markmallows-14

I think we waited 3 hours before I began cutting into it. I wanted to make up the first giift jar! I am sooo impatient! It really was ready to cut.
See?? After eating some of it and washing it down with a pepsi ( not a good idea) then I busily placed these wonderous pillows of magic into their
sweet little jars and curled the ribbons.

    Markmallows-15 Markmallows-16

Tomorrow I make more! Cause I must master this recipe! Aren’t you glad you aren’t my guinea pig?? Stay tuned for my homemade
graham crackers in the coming days. You see where I am going with those two items dont you? To reward the first person who actually
read all this… if you can guess correctly what I am putting together here, you get your own jar of MARKMALLOWS! Okay GO!
